What on Earth is a Blog?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

All this talk about blogging and Twitter and Facebook sounds strange to the uninitiated. As the Internet attracts more and more people looking for ways to use the social connection tools or to make money, the Wordpress Theme Studio staff is going to add some articles for all those Internet “newbies.”

For those who are new to these things offered on the world wide web, we’ll start with some information about blogs.

What is a blog?

You’ve probably been to one and didn’t even know it was a blog. Technically, a blog consists of pages on the Internet that are made with special software (in the case of this website, it’s made using Wordpress). I won’t bore you with a list of all of the different software that is used, but the well-known blog writing tools are: Wordpress, TypePad and Blogger.

What was once the main way to make pages for websites is changing. At one time most pages were written in a language called HTML. People could write pages using HTML code from scratch or using software that helps create the pages (such as DreamWeaver). This type of code isn’t that easy-to-use.

The inception of blogs made the whole process of writing content for the internet far easier because once the blog software is installed, the blogger only needed to select a template and start adding pages. No expertise in web writing code is necessary. This is why people can just post daily or weekly about any topic they want to write about (something that a static HTML website can not provide).

Another great thing about blog sites is the immediacy of feedback due to the way comments can be posted by readers.

Why do people make blogs?

We’ve all seen numerous blogs about celebrities and news. Some of my favorite blogs are about food, cooking and recipes. Or, those that show photos, jokes or artwork are always fun to look at. Some people’s blogs seem a bit egotistic in that they just talk about what they are doing and things they like. Basically blogging is about publishing. It helps if you have something of interest to talk about.

A newer trend in blogging is to blog about products and services and to sell them (to make money using a blog). And other sites are for providing interesting articles and education for the readers (and often also trying to make some money in the process.)

Why do companies have blogs on their websites?

Now that blogging has become so popular, businesses are starting to create blogs that discuss issues that are of interest to people in their company or industry. This is the newest trend – professional blogs. Many of these have content that has been written by paid professional writers. These business blogs are being made to increase traffic to websites. It has been found that creating a regular flow of articles and content on a site will make the searches for those topics being written about (based on the keywords used) show up in search engines (such as Google, Yahoo and MSN).

A good blog will attract readers and people will make links from their sites to it. The more the blog (or any other website for that matter) has sites linking to it – the more the search engines think the blog has importance. This will make the search engines give the site a better result in what is shown in search engine results.

This article is barely scratching the surface on the topic of blogging (but then we did say this was for internet “newbies”).

There will be more in-depth articles about how to make a successful blog and other more technical things such as how to install a blog. If you are interested in reading more, subscribe to our RSS feed or bookmark this site and visit us again.

Thanks…

Auto Content Generators for Wordpress

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

I am writing this list of good tools to get content for blogs and websites, such as videos, articles, and other content to share with people who are looking for help with getting more articles added to their blogs. I’ve recently found out that internet marketers use these tools all the time.

Of course, you can always use articles and videos by going directly to websites and using their tools or grabbing the code. But to make it go a bit faster, or to be able to schedule the posts and edit posts, you can use tools that help you with all that.

You know that you need good content to get your pages ranked in search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN). The following recommendations include Wordpress plugins and article marketing solutions to help you with your website’s content needs.

First recommendation: Caffeinated Content - Instant content. Targeted content. Automatic content. Easy-to-use plugin for Wordpress. Read about caffeinated content. This one isn’t free, but it’s worth every penny of the one time cost of $77. For an in-depth look at the settings and the type of content you can add using this plugin, download this PDF: 7 Steps to Using Caffeinated Content.

Second recommendation: Article Marketing Automation – This is a service (not a plugin) that helps you get articles posted on your blog. Or you can use it to get good ideas and write new articles. And, you can write articles to have them posted on other people’s blogs. It’s one of the best tools/services for article marketing I’ve tried. It’s a cool system where you can add blogs and select what kind of articles you want to add to them. Then when you add your own articles (there is an easy to use article spinning tool) you can put up to 3 links for any site you want to create links to. The article spinner is so easy – you don’t have to use any codes, their system prompts you through each sentence of your article and allows you to rewrite the sentence up to 10 times. This service is not free, but for getting backlinks to your websites and blogs, this is the way to go. Register now for a free trial. AMA Sign Up Page. Read why I like this service.

Article Marketing

Third recommendation: Instant Article Wizard Pro. This is another way to spread your articles and links around the internet.  It was developed by a successful internet marketer named Jonathan Leger. His goal in making this tool was to help you get articles with quality content on virtually any subject for any niche you need it for. It’s also a great tool to use to research various topics and writing help for your articles. Speed up your article writing.  Instant Article Wizard requires a computer running Windows 98 / ME / XP / 2000 / 2003 / Vista. The .NET Framework must be installed on your computer (it is by default on XP/2003/Vista).
